About Paul Spafford

Paul started his professional life as an accountant, at a firm utilizing a FileMaker Pro 3 database. While it did the trick, the usability and interface were lacking, so Paul dug into the guts of the database and found this more fun than accounting. Soon, he was developing his own solutions and garnering a client base part-time; a few years later, he quit accounting for good and went into the geeky and nerdy field of custom FileMaker database application development and consulting! Initially, Paul built solutions for clients in the graphic design industries, then eXpanded into helping non-profits and schools. Since then, Paul’s eXtensive business and financial training, combined with his ability to come up with creative problem-solving solutions, has served him well with consistently impressing clients from different industries and markets throughout North America. While Paul’s main focus has been development on the FileMaker Platform, he’s eXpanded his toolkit and learned WordPress and JavaScript and can easily bend Excel files to his will (using only his mind!). Paul left eXcelisys in 2007 to form his own company, later realizing there is a lot more to it than just being a fantastic developer. Now he’s back, having realized that he’s a better programmer than business owner. And we are glad he came back! In his spare time, Paul is a regular on the folk music scene in his hometown of Ottawa, Ontario, playing banjo and mandolin while singing songs about love, murder and hard times.
